Mervi Aavikko

Mervi Aavikko is an Associate Professor in Molecular Genetics at the University of Helsinki with a longstanding interest and experience in translational cancer research. Her work focuses on understanding the genetic mechanisms underlying cancer susceptibility and leveraging genomic data to inform precision medicine.

Since November 2019, she has worked as a project manager in the FinnGen research project, a pioneering initiative integrating genomic and health register data from 500,000 Finns. In this role, she facilitates scientific collaboration, oversees research administration, and contributes to strategic planning to maximize the project’s impact on genomic medicine. Her research continues to bridge the gap between genetic discoveries and clinical applications.

Mervi Aavikko has joined Mark Daly’s lab in Boston as a Visiting Scientist to work on genetic mechanisms underlying cancer susceptibility.
